The Birth of Sociology

This segment introduces the viewer to the birth of sociology in the early 19th century. As industrialization of cities created social problems, people began to turn to the scientific method to understand their root causes as well as come up with solutions to fix them. Many important discoveries emerged from the scientific study of society. One such discovery was the water-borne transmission of cholera by Dr. John Snow. I discuss how early sociological methods informed this discovery in the segment below.
